STATE CHOIR LATVIJA TO PERFORM AT RIGA’S DOME CATHEDRAL AND LIEPĀJA’S GREAT AMBER

A program dedicated to the greats of French music will be performed on August 20th at Riga’s Dome Cathedral. We will mark the 175th birthday of the French master of organ music, Charles-Marie Widor, with a performance of his Mass, which is performed extensively worldwide. We will also mark Francis Poulenc’s 120th birthday, in honor of which the State Choir LATVIJA will perform Poulenc’s significant work Litanies à la Vierge noire (Litany to the Black Virgin), as well as his Laudes de Saint Antoine de Padoue. As befits a concert of French music, the conductor will also be from France—Loïc Pierre—while the organ solo will be played by the masterful Piret Aidulo from Estonia. The visual image of this year’s festival has been inspired by Poulenc’s Litany to the Black Virgin.

Meanwhile, on August 23rd and 24th, we will celebrate the State Choir LATVIJA’s many years of friendship with the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra. The two concerts will feature the nuanced audience-favorite, Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem, as well as Imants Kalniņš’ Symphony No. 6. On August 23rd at 7 p.m. at Liepāja’s Great Amber concert hall, the concert will conclude the Liepāja Summer Festival, while on August 24th the program will be the Closing Concert of the 22nd International Sacred Music Festival.
