Iveta Apkalna and State Choir “Latvija” – laureats of “Kilograms kultūras 2024”

On Saturday, February 15, 2025 laureates of the Latvian Public Media Annual Award in Culture “Kilograms kulturas 2024” were awarded in ten categories.

The nominees of the “Kilograms kulturas” award – the most original and high-quality Latvian cultural events of the past year – are nominated by a jury of professionals in the cultural field of Latvian Public Media, but the final decision is made only by viewers and listeners, voting in four votes – spring, autumn, winter and final.

In the “Music” category, viewers and listeners highly rated the solo concert of organist Iveta Apkalnas with the participation of the State Academic Choir “Latvija” under the leadership of conductor Māris Sirmais, which was performed on September 14, 2024, in the Riga City Hall.

State choir “Latvija” was also nominated for the award for the following concerts in the “Music” category:

  • Concert “Rihards Dubra’s anniversary concert. Choir “Latvija” and Māris Sirmais” on March 15 in Riga Cathedral. Organist Kristīne Adamaite, cellist Ēriks Kiršfelds, horn players Artūrs Šults, Kalvis Etkins, percussionists Elina Endzele, Normunds Everts, State Choir “Latvija”, conductor Māris Sirmais.
  • Concert performance of Richard Wagner’s opera “Dievu mijkrēslis” on August 3, Concert Hall “Cēsis”. Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, conductor Tarmo Peltokoski, soloists, State choir “Latvija”. Art festival “Cēsis 2024”.
