Ludwig van Beethoven Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125
Our lives today are throbbing with the rhythm of changes, not unlike that of the Viennese genius Ludwig van Beethoven more than two centuries ago who spent his years in a whirlwind of world-shattering transformations. And perhaps exactly these conditions created a rich soil for the revolutionary ideas of this passionate visionary and deep thinker, bursting open the norms of his own era and traversing the time and space, leaving a deep imprint on many generations afterwards. Beethoven’s legendary Fifth, the monumental Ninth and youthful First Symphony in this concert series will resonate with the emotionally tense musical language of contemporary free thinkers – Unsuk Chin, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Pēteris Vasks, and build links to the thoughtful creativity of Charles Ives and the musical heritage of Luigi Cherubini who was admired by the maestro himself.
