LATGOLYS GODSKUORTYS. An Author Concert by Ilona Rupaine and Juris Vaivods

Composers Ilona Rupaine and Juris Vaivods are contemporaries and are both celebrating milestone anniversaries this year. Yet, they are connected by much more than their age. Both composers come from Latgale, have sung in choirs, and have created a substantial body of choral music. Today, they also shape the musical content of two significant Latvian cultural institutions: Dailes Theatre and GORS, The Embassy of Latgale.

At the initiative of the State Choir LATVIJA and conductor Māris Sirmais, the concert programme Latgolys Godskuortys has been created, bringing together choral works by both composers. The programme features arrangements of Latgalian folk songs, complemented by instrumental interludes performed by ethnomusician students from the Latgale Music and Arts School.

The concert offers a celebration of Latgalian musical heritage through the distinctive creative voices of two of its most prominent contemporary composers.
