The State Choir Latvija, under the artistic direction of Māris Sirmais, invites audiences to the concert The Fruit of Silence, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the distinguished Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks. The concert will take place on 27 November at the Concert Hall Latvija in Ventspils.

Pēteris Vasks is recognized as one of the most prominent and celebrated composers of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. A laureate of numerous national and international distinctions, he is also the recipient of the Latvian Grand Music Award for Lifetime Achievement. The program reflects the entire arc of his creative career— from early works written during his studies in the 1970s to his most recent compositions — offering audiences a comprehensive musical portrait of his artistic journey.

The program will include both a cappella choral works (Mother Sun, The Message of the Birds, Mummers’ Song) and instrumental as well as vocal-instrumental pieces (Castillo Interior, Landscape of the Plain, Laudate Dominum, Dona nobis pacem, The Fruit of Silence). The choir will be joined by violinist Daniils Bulajevs, cellist Guna Šnē, and organist Aigars Reinis, who will enhance the concert hall’s outstanding acoustics by performing on its two unique instruments — the acoustic organ and the world’s largest vertical concert grand piano.

The concert will be recorded by Latvian Television and broadcast on ARTE, one of Europe’s leading cultural channels.

Please note that photography, video, and audio recording will take place during the event.
