Marking the 150th anniversary of the prominent Latvian composer Emīls Dārziņš, the concert ES ZINU, KĀ ROZE PLAUKST (I Know How a Rose Blooms) takes place at the Riga Latvian Society House. The State Choir LATVIJA performs all 17 of the composer’s a cappella choral songs, interwoven with improvisations on Dārziņš’s solo song themes performed by a jazz quartet: Edgars Cīrulis, Kristīne Cīrule, Kaspars Kurdeko, and Staņislavs Judins. The programme is framed by readings from actors Ģirts Ķesteris, Artūrs Skrastiņš, and Mārtiņš Meiers. A year later, the concert receives the Latvian Public Media award Kilograms kultūras (Kilogram of Culture) in the category “Concert of the Year”.
