The cantata Lord, Your Land is on Fire! (Dievs, Tava zeme deg!), a joint effort by Latvian composer and pianist Lūcija Garūta (1902–1977) and poet and politicianAndrejs Eglītis (1912-2006), is historically meaningful to the music heritage of Latvia. Its main message touches on the hardships of the Latvian people and the suffering at the crossroads their history – all in a solemn epic form that depicts the fight for existence, independence and freedom. This truly inspirational composition, filled with tragical pain and predestined strength is not only relevant to the history of the Latvian people, but to current modern-day issues in Latvia.
